If you have recently moved to or are considering moving to Honolulu, there are a number of benefits to establishing residency. Filing state income tax in Hawaii can be used as evidence of your intent to establish residency in Hawaii. An individual wishing to establish residency can file Form N-11, the Individual Income Tax Return for Residents.
State of Hawaii Office of Elections

The State of Hawaii Office of Elections is responsible for administering elections in Hawaii. Registering to vote in Hawaii is persuasive evidence to demonstrate the intent to have Hawaii be your legal residency. As a resident of Honolulu, you can register to vote at the Honolulu City Clerk's Office. After registering to vote in Hawaii, you can write to the State of Hawaii Office of Elections to obtain a copy of your voter registration.
Hawaii Department of Customer Services

The Hawaii Department of Customer Services is the agency in Honolulu responsible for issuing driver's licenses. Under Hawaii law, a Hawaii driver's license may be obtained with a Social Security number and a driver's license issued by another state. While a Hawaii driver's license may be obtained without proof of living at a Hawaii address, the act of surrendering another state's driver's license and obtaining a Hawaii driver's license can be used to establish residency.
Personal Documents

In addition to documents obtained from government agencies in Honolulu, there are other documents that you can use to substantiate a claim of residency in Honolulu.
